Just wanted to post this when I saw it. I'm not a major sports fan but I thought this was funny to watch.

"What About the Boys"- Kimmel
Argument
This author Kimmel argues about other authors comments on boys vs. girls. Reading the article I noticed that FEMINISM = Key BOYS VS. GIRLS. The article mentions that Feminism is the reason why boys are being overruled by education, behavior, etc. "Because of feminism America is so focused on girls that we've forgotten about the boys". She states that quote and I kind of agree with it because girls are more in publicity, reality TV shows, known as shoppers. Whereas guys get higher pay jobs, a higher population of men in the business field, tech savvy, create different genre music. Some genders are better in subjects like math, science, history, or even being into cars and fashion. I think that society does focus more on females than males, and that's where feminism comes to play, yet I disagree too that boys are not forgotten. It has become a more socially and society oriented world that men and woman are being characterized and categorized. The article argues that an essential part of every boys life consists of "a graduation day, bar mitzvah, military boot camp". I disagree that boys go through certain categories, "everyone is different" and yes everyone has a graduation, there are certain cultures that have special occasions in life to honor someone but not everyone is exposed to the military. This video is just a short film of boys vs. girls (military style).

Throughout reading the whole article I think that the main idea of the author is to show that boys and girls are being picked on in certain cases and are being categorized as Feminism.
Something for the end. "Boys are four to five times more likely to kill themselves than girls, four times more likely to be diagnosed as emotionally disturbed, three times more likely to be diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, and 15 times more likely to be victims of violent crime". This quote just stuck out to me as I was reading the article, I was confused how they would know that.

"La Conciencia de la Mestiza: Towards a New Consciousness"- Anzaldua
Extended Comments:
This article was a much easier read than the article on "Compulsory Heterosexuality". Gloria is trying to explain what Mestiza is.
This link shows the definition of a Mestiza, http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mestiza
A quote that was mentioned in the article was "la mestiza is a product of the transfer of the cultural and spiritual values of one group to another", this explains what the life of a Mestiza is and what it consists of. It explains the meaning of one to be of different races. As mentioned on Celine's Blog as well, "she talks of the Mestiza as not belonging to a single category, but many---these many categories intertwine. Basically, a Mestiza has no definitive place to call home. As a Mestiza she is trying to figure out who she is and where exactly she can call home" (Celine). I do agree with Celine because she is trying to figure out who she really is, as she is stuck between races. The text also notes that its as though being "cradled in one culture, sandwich between two cultures, straddling all three cultures and their value systems, la mestiza undergoes a struggle of flesh, a struggle of borders, an inner war". On Celine's blog I commented "will this ever stop"?
Understanding where Gloria was coming from I understood the meaning of Mestiza and how shes stuck between different races. That already sounds confusing to me so I can only imagine what she feels like and is going through.

Live Debate Notes on Education- October 3
O: community colleges want to form job training by federal support to have training in college. 60 bill dollars to student loan program but taking billion dollars out of system they cut back, lowered interest rates on loans, Romney tells students to borrow money from there parents as they attend college.
R: Not about cutting education funding, but continuing to grow, 90 billion dollars in green jobs, Romney says he could have hired 2 million teachers instead, the government grades school by test to rate them so that parents know that the school their child is going to attend is a well known and high standard school due to testing. He wants to make it more efficient because he has been there he says in Massachusetts as he grew up “he cares about education”.

"Compulsory"- Rich
This reading is harder than I thought. Dr.Bogad and Chris you were both write. I thought it would be easier just to type my notes out on my blog rather than printing it out and scribling all over the pages (would get me confused).
Okay so first off I would like to describe the meaning of:
Compulsory Heterosexuality: In Rich's article he describes heterosexuality is a society issue. Compulsory means required by law and forced. Heterosexuality means feelings that one feels as a person.
As I am still so confused on this topic, I found this article to be hard as was reading it and trying to make sense of it.
Lesbian Eistance: In Rich's article she describes it as a persons lifestyle of choice.
This whole article was so confusing and hope that I understand it more in class. I think my description is wrong but I gave it a shot and hope to get a clearer understanding of it in class. I will try to make another posting after class on what it really means.
