"What About the Boys"- Kimmel

Argument
This author Kimmel argues about other authors comments on boys vs. girls.  Reading the article I noticed that FEMINISM = Key BOYS VS. GIRLS.  The article mentions that Feminism is the reason why boys are being overruled by education, behavior, etc.  "Because of feminism America is so focused on girls that we've forgotten about the boys".  She states that quote and I kind of agree with it because girls are more in publicity, reality TV shows, known as shoppers.  Whereas guys get higher pay jobs, a higher population of men in the business field, tech savvy, create different genre music.  Some genders are better in subjects like math, science, history, or even being into cars and fashion.  I think that society does focus more on females than males, and that's where feminism comes to play, yet I disagree too that boys are not forgotten.  It has become a more socially and society oriented world that men and woman are being characterized and categorized.  The article argues that an essential part of every boys life consists of "a graduation day, bar mitzvah, military boot camp".  I disagree that boys go through certain categories, "everyone is different" and yes everyone has a graduation, there are certain cultures that have special occasions in life to honor someone but not everyone is exposed to the military.  This video is just a short film of boys vs. girls (military style).

Throughout reading the whole article I think that the main idea of the author is to show that boys and girls are being picked on in certain cases and are being categorized as Feminism.

Something for the end.  "Boys are four to five times more likely to kill themselves than girls, four times more likely to be diagnosed as emotionally disturbed, three times more likely to be diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, and 15 times more likely to be victims of violent crime".  This quote just stuck out to me as I was reading the article, I was confused how they would know that.

  2. it was funny because while reading this article i kind of paused when Kimmel said every boy has a graduation, bar mitzah, or military boot camp. this is only because i feel like more boys are more likely to drop out of school, never graduated, and never do anything more with their life other than flip burgers at burger king. and i do not know that there is a big jewish population in rhode island. LOL. anywho, women are more likely to graduate and have more successful careers and go to college. which is just something i wanted to argue.

  3. I agree with the quote at the end. I feel like its somewhat exaggerated a bit. And i feel like ADD is prone in anyone regardless of sex, and i highly doubt boys get super offended by feminism. I dont know. I guess we will see in class as Nancy said!
